Venice Film Festival 2026: The prestigious Venice Film Festival, also known as La Biennale de Venezia has officially kicked off. And this year, multiple films from India will be screening at the film festival. The 83rd edition also marks the debut of the Super Six initiative by Vikrant More, which will run in parallel.

This year, the following Indian projects will be screening at the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival:
Lovers in the Blue Night
Cast: Neelima Sharma, Pritam Pilania, Bhushan Shimpi, Jatin Sarin, Kajal Kesha

Where to Watch: Orrizonti section
Anuparna Roy is not a newcomer to the Venice Film Festival. In fact, she previously won the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section in 2025. Lovers in the Blue Night is a joint production by India and the US. It follows a Bangladeshi couple living in Mumbai and explores themes like migration, identity, displacement and desire.
English, August
Cast: Rahul Bose, Tanvi Azmi
Director: Dev Benegal
Where to Watch: Classics section
Based on Upamanyu Chatterjee’s novel, English, August is a cult film originally from the 90s. This year, a 4K restoration of Dev Benegal’s 1994 cult film will be screened in the Venice Classics section. The restoration was conducted by the Film Heritage Foundation.
Anokhya the Origin
Cast: Milind Soman, Namritha MV, Sudhana, Nikhat Khan

Where to Watch: Venice Immersive Section
Anokhya: The Origin, directed by Anand Kishore, is a 27-minute immersive VR work inspired by Indian mythology. It stars Milind Soman, Namritha MV, Sudhana, Nikhat Khan and features music composed by AR Rahman.
Flower of Life
Cast: Piyush Mishra
Director: VR Bhagat
Where to Watch: Super Six
VR Bhagat’s directorial debut ‘The Flower of Life’ will feature in the Super Six section of Venice Film Festival. This Mumbai based drama follows 3 couples whose lives intertwine through unexpected encounters and lead to kindness and hope.

This poignant emotional drama from Joe Rajan is about a man who wakes up to the heavy cost of regret, realising the true value of love only after it has slipped away.
The Last Drop

Super Six: All You Need to Know About Vikrant More’s Initiative
Established by Vikrant More, Super Six is an initiative that aims to bridge the gap between emerging Indian independent cinema and the global film market. It was launched in association with the Bharat International Film Festival Organisation and Indian Panorama International Film Festival Organisation. However, it is different from the main film festival at Venice.
