Suriya is all set to return to the big screen with Vishwanath & Sons, a family drama that mixes romance, emotions and a sports angle. The film, directed by Venky Atluri, is arriving in theatres this Friday and has already attracted attention for bringing Suriya together with Premalu actress Mamitha Baiju. The film will release in Tamil and Telugu.

When Is Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons Releasing?
Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons is set to hit theatres on August 14 which makes it part of a packed Independence Day weekend at the box office. The film will release on the same day as Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s Batwara 1947 and Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani’s Awarapan 2.
While Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 are Hindi releases, Vishwanath & Sons will primarily target Tamil and Telugu audiences. Still, with all three films arriving on the same day, they will be competing for audience attention and screens during the holiday weekend.
Vishwanath & Sons release also comes after Suriya’s successful Karuppu.
What Is Vishwanath & Sons About?
Suriya plays Sanjay Vishwanath, a former international pistol shooting champion whose life has largely been built around discipline, sport and family responsibilities. But as he enters a stage of life where his eyesight and physical abilities are no longer what they once were, Sanjay decides to make one more attempt at a comeback.
His carefully organised life gets a shake-up when he meets Maddy, played by Mamitha Baiju. She is around 20 years younger than him and is far more open about her attraction towards Sanjay.
Vishwanath & Sons also takes a much more emotional turn when fatherhood enters his life through surrogacy. Sanjay becomes a father but things take a difficult turn when his baby falls seriously ill.
The situation brings Sanjay closer to his child’s surrogate mother and forces him to look at his life beyond his sporting ambitions and personal relationships.

Suriya leads the film as Sanjay Vishwanath, with Mamitha Baiju playing Maddy. The supporting cast includes Radhika Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon and Bhavani Sre.
Raveena Tandon’s presence is particularly notable as the actress is returning to Tamil cinema after more than two decades. Her last Tamil film was Kamal Haasan’s Aalavandhan, released in 2001.
