Sean “Diddy” Combs is no longer living the high-profile lifestyle. The music mogul is currently serving a federal prison sentence. He was convicted on prostitution-related charges in 2025. While he avoided the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges, Diddy is now behind bars and continues to fight for a reduced sentence and earlier release.
Here’s everything you need to know about Diddy’s prison location, sentence, release date and ongoing appeal efforts.
Where Is Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Now?
As of June 2026, Sean “Diddy” Combs is being held at FCI Fort Dix. It is a low-security federal prison in New Jersey. The prison houses thousands of inmates and is located in New Hanover Township.
The Bad Boy Records founder was transferred to Fort Dix in October 2025. Before this, he spent more than a year at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn following his arrest. According to reports, Diddy requested a prison closer to his family while serving his sentence.
Why Is Diddy In Prison?
Diddy was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July 2025. However, he was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Those could have resulted in a life sentence. Following the verdict, the court sentenced him to 50 months in federal prison.
Diddy’s Prison Sentence Explained
Although Diddy was sentenced to 50 months behind bars, he does not need to serve all of that time. The 14 months he spent in custody before sentencing are included in the sentence. This reduced the amount of time which means he would ultimately spend fewer months in prison. As of now, he has a little over two and a half years remaining in prison.
Has Diddy’s Release Date Changed?
Yes. Diddy’s projected release date has changed multiple times since he began serving his sentence. The Federal Bureau of Prisons initially listed his release date as June 4, 2028. It was later revised to April 25, 2028, then April 15, 2028.
Most recently, his expected release date was moved up again to February 23, 2028. Officials have not publicly explained the reason behind the changes.
Is Diddy Trying To Get Out Of Prison Early?
Diddy reportedly enrolled in the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP), a federal rehabilitation initiative that can reduce an inmate’s sentence by up to one year if they qualify and successfully complete the program.
The rapper has previously acknowledged his struggles with substance abuse and described himself as being sober for the first time in decades.
What Job Does Diddy Have In Prison?
Reports indicate that Diddy currently works as a chaplain’s assistant at FCI Fort Dix. The role reportedly involves maintaining religious records, organising materials in the prison’s religious library and assisting with administrative duties for the chapel.
Has Diddy Appealed His Conviction?
Diddy’s legal team formally appealed his conviction and sentence in December 2025. His attorneys argue that his conviction should be overturned and have also challenged the length of his sentence. The final ruling is yet to be announced.
