BBC Radio 1 has announced a major shake up to its schedule by introducing several new presenters across weekday and weekend shows. While the biggest talking point is the arrival of Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah as the new hosts of the iconic Live Lounge, the line up also welcomes names such as GK Barry, Charley Marlowe, Mylo and Rosie, Lauren Layfield and Emil Franchi. The changes will also mark the departure of a few familiar Radio 1 voices.

Charlie Hedges And Jeremiah Asiamah To Front Live Lounge

One of the biggest changes is at the Live Lounge where Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah will take over hosting duties from Monday to Thursday. The pair are already well known to Radio 1 listeners and will now be leading artist interviews, live performances and music conversations on one of the station’s best-known programmes.

Sharing her excitement, Charlie told BBC, “I’m so excited to be hosting the iconic Live Lounge with Jerry! We’re a bit chaotic whenever we get together, so bringing that energy live to Radio 1 with some of the biggest artists in the world is going to be wild.”

Jeremiah described the opportunity as a full circle moment, saying, “I still remember listening to the Live Lounge on the way home from college in 2017, so presenting it now alongside the brilliant Charlie Hedges is a real full circle moment.”

GK Barry Among The Biggest New Additions

Another familiar name joining the revamped schedule is internet personality and podcast host GK Barry who will begin hosting her own Radio 1 show from September 10.

Already known for her hit podcast Saving Grace, GK Barry said listeners can expect plenty of laughs, celebrity guests and the kind of unfiltered stories that have made her one of the UK’s most recognisable online personalities.

She said, “You’ll be hearing my favourite songs, we’ll be speaking with some really exciting guests and as always, in true GK Barry style, I promise a lot of humour, chaos and embarrassing stories along the way!”

More Presenters Join The New Line Up

Charley Marlowe will team up with Vicky Hawkesworth for the station’s Friday to Sunday daytime slot while award winning duo Mylo and Rosie have landed the Early Breakfast show after becoming familiar voices on the network over the past year.

Meanwhile, Lauren Layfield will host The Official Chart: First Look, a brand-new Sunday programme broadcasting live from Birmingham.

Emil Franchi has also been named the new presenter of Weekend Breakfast.

Which Presenters Are Leaving BBC Radio 1?

Alongside the new appointments, BBC Radio 1 confirmed that Rickie Haywood Williams, Melvin Odoom, Dean McCullough, Nat O’Leary, James Cusack and Swarzy will be leaving the station’s schedule as part of the September changes.
