The announcement was made by the band on July 13, and it confirmed that Jennifer has undergone multiple surgeries after complications from treatment. Jennifer has spent nearly four decades shaping the sound and attitude of punk and grunge music. Beyond her work as a bassist, she is also known as a singer, songwriter, photographer, graphic designer and visual artist.
Who is Jennifer Finch?
Born on August 5, 1966, Jennifer Finch emerged from California’s underground punk scene. Soon, she became one of the defining musicians of the grunge era. Before joining L7, she played in the short-lived San Francisco band Sugar Babydoll with future Hole frontwoman Courtney Love and Babes in Toyland’s Kat Bjelland.
Jennifer Finch joined the Los Angeles-based rock band L7 in 1986. Her energetic bass playing and songwriting became crucial to the band’s identity as L7 evolved into one of the most influential all-female rock acts of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Jennifer Finch’s music career
With L7, Jennifer played on the band’s best-known albums, like L7 (1988), Smell the Magic (1990), Bricks Are Heavy (1992) and Hungry for Stink (1994). The band’s breakthrough album, Bricks Are Heavy, featured the hit “Pretend We’re Dead,” which helped introduce L7 to mainstream audiences during the height of the grunge movement.
Jennifer also contributed as a songwriter, and penned songs such as “(Right On) Thru,” “Everglade,” “One More Thing” and “Shirley.” She left L7 in 1996 before pursuing other creative ventures, including projects with bands such as The Shocker and Other Star People. She was also working as a photographer, writer and graphic designer.
