Nicholas Hoult is set to enter the wizarding world. The British actor has reportedly joined HBO’s Harry Potter Season 2, where he will play Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Deadline reported.
The second season will follow the events of the second Harry Potter book while the first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to premiere around Christmas. Filming for Season 2 is expected to begin this fall.
Who Is Gilderoy Lockhart?
Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the key characters in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He is a wizard who has become famous for his supposed magical achievements and is highly obsessed with his public image.
Lockhart is also known for his ability to manipulate memories using magic. Dumbledore recruits him as the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he becomes part of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s second year at the school.
Hoult will take on the character for HBO’s new television adaptation.
Who Is Nicholas Hoult?
Nicholas Hoult is an English actor whose career has moved between blockbuster films, television and critically recognised projects.
He first became widely known as a child actor after appearing opposite Hugh Grant in the 2002 film About a Boy. He later took on a prominent role in the British teen drama Skins.
Hoult went on to become part of major film franchises such as the X-Men series where he played mutant scientist Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, across four films. He also appeared as Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Hoult has also built a strong television career. He played Peter III of Russia in the Hulu satirical comedy The Great, a performance that earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
His recent film projects include Robert Eggers’ Gothic horror film Nosferatu, Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 and Justin Kurzel’s The Order.
He is also known for playing Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman and appears in Peacemaker Season 2.

Hoult will join the new cast of the HBO series led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The series also features Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, with Mark Mylod as executive producer and director on multiple episodes. Jon Brown, who worked as a writer on Season 1, has also been elevated to co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Gardiner.
