Awarapan 2 has brought Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original. The film has also introduced audiences to a fresh face and he has caught quite a lot of attention with his performance as the antagonist. Actor Puran Gabbi plays Zorawar, a powerful rival in the action thriller.
Who is Puran Gabbi?
Puran Gabbi comes from an artistic family. His full name is Haardik Puran Gabbi. He is the son of author Govardhan Gabbi and educationist Raj Kaushal. Before taking on fairly big acting assignments, Puran worked in minor production roles and gradually made his way in front of the camera.
His early screen appearances include a brief supporting role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, where he was credited as Haardik Gabbi. He then appeared in a minor role in the 2020 comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.
Puran later featured in the Netflix crime series Black Warrant, playing the character Ranga. The seven-episode series, created by Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, was based on the non-fiction book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury.
Puran Gabbi is Wamiqa Gabbi’s younger brother
Puran Gabbi is also the younger brother of actor Wamiqa Gabbi. Wamiqa has carved out a name for herself across Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Malayalam cinema, and did notable performances in projects including Jubilee, Khufiya and Mai.
Following the trailer release of Awarapan 2, Wamiqa shared an emotional note for her brother on social media. She expressed pride in Puran and highlighted that he had earned the challenging role through his own journey, auditions and persistence.
Puran Gabbi is also an indie musician
Acting is not Puran Gabbi’s only creative pursuit. He is also an indie musician and releases music under his own name. In late 2025, he released his debut single Swim, a track inspired by a poem written by his father, Govardhan Gabbi.
His work across acting, production and music reflects a creative background that extends beyond conventional Bollywood aspirations, with Puran gradually building his own identity in the entertainment space.
Puran Gabbi as Zorawar in Awarapan 2
Puran’s biggest screen opportunity so far comes with Awarapan 2, where he plays Zorawar, one of the film’s key antagonistic forces. The character is the leader of a rival group and is also the brother of Zara, played by Disha Patani.
The film follows Shivam Pandit, played by Emraan Hashmi, after the events of the 2007 original. Shivam, still carrying the emotional scars of his past, becomes involved in a dangerous mission after a young girl he has been raising is kidnapped. His search takes him to Bangkok, where he infiltrates Zorawar’s group and becomes entangled with Zara.
What is Awarapan 2 about?
Released in theatres on August 14, Awarapan 2 is the sequel to Mohit Suri’s 2007 cult favourite Awarapan. The new film is directed by Nitin Kakkar and brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit, with Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in significant roles.
The original Awarapan, despite not being a box-office success upon release, developed a strong cult following over the years. The sequel attempts to continue Shivam’s story while introducing a new conflict and a new set of characters.
