Television actor Rohit Chandel has made headlines after being arrested by Mumbai Police in connection with a case involving a 16-year-old girl. The actor, best known for his roles in Pandya Store and Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Who is Rohit Chandel?
Born on September 26, 1995, in Shahada, Maharashtra, Rohit Chandel is the son of Rajendra Chandel and Nanda Chandel. He developed an interest in acting at a young age but his journey into the entertainment industry was far from easy.
According to past interviews, Rohit faced rejection in nearly 90 auditions before landing his first break. His acting career began with a commercial advertisement, which eventually opened the doors to television.
He made his TV debut in 2014 with a minor role in Har Mushkil Ka Hal Akbar Birbal, aired on BIG Magic. Over the next few years, he appeared in several television shows, gradually establishing himself as a familiar face in the industry.
Rohit Chandel’s Rise To Fame
Rohit’s breakthrough came in 2022 when he was cast as Baji Rao in the historical drama Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. His portrayal of the Maratha ruler earned him recognition among television audiences and helped him secure leading roles.
He later starred opposite Priyanshi Yadav as Dhawal Makwana in Star Plus’ hit family drama Pandya Store. His performance and on-screen chemistry with his co-star made him one of the show’s most talked-about actors, significantly boosting his popularity.
Apart from television, Rohit also explored digital platforms. He appeared in the Disney+ Hotstar thriller Escaype Live and worked on a few international projects, expanding his acting portfolio beyond daily soaps.
Most recently, he was seen playing Ishaan, a successful pop star, in the Star Plus musical romantic drama Sairaab, which premiered on June 2, 2026 and is also streaming on JioHotstar.
Why Was Rohit Chandel Arrested?
Rohit Chandel was arrested by Pant Nagar Police from his residence in Dahisar on July 10 after a 16-year-old girl accused him of stalking, harassment and physical assault.
According to the FIR, the actor allegedly contacted the minor repeatedly using his personal mobile number as well as several other phone numbers despite her objections. The complainant further alleged that on July 5, Rohit stopped her near her housing society, followed her, verbally abused her and assaulted her during an altercation.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (stalking) and Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt).
Police have confirmed that the actor and the complainant knew each other but have not disclosed the nature of their acquaintance, citing the ongoing investigation.
What About Court Proceedings?
Following his arrest, Rohit was produced before a special POCSO court, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation. Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that all allegations are being examined. As of now, Rohit Chandel has not publicly responded to the accusations.
