Suhasini Mulay, best known for her roles in films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar, found love later in life and got married at the age of 60. Her husband is a scientist and the two first connected through Facebook. They reportedly got married just 75 days after meeting each other.
Speaking on Suhana Safar, Suhasini talked about her journey and said, “I married for the first time at the age of 60. Until then, I hadn’t found the right match. My husband is a very well-known scientist. When he talks about science, I don’t understand a thing, but he is a wonderful human being.”
How Facebook Helped Suhasini Mulay Meet Love Of Her Life
The story of how they met is quite unexpected. Suhasini revealed that she joined Facebook after being encouraged by a co-star, mainly to look for work opportunities.
While exploring the platform, she came across a profile that caught her attention. It belonged to Atul, a physicist working on the Large Hadron Collider. She was surprised to see scientists on Facebook and even messaged him asking, “What is LHC?” since she was genuinely curious.
That simple message led to regular conversations and email exchanges. Atul eventually mentioned that he was looking for a life partner though he never made a direct proposal.
Suhasini later admitted she found the situation amusing at first because she thought she had not found the right person in 60 years, so it seemed unlikely that things would suddenly change. But over time, their bond grew stronger and they eventually got married within 75 days of meeting.
Who Is Suhasini Mulay?
Suhasini Mulay is a respected actress and documentary filmmaker. She made her acting debut at just 18 in Bhuvan Shome (1969), directed by Mrinal Sen.
Suhasini has worked in numerous television shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Virasaat, Kya Mast Hai Life, Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, Udaan and others.
Over the years, she went on to appear in films like Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Page 3, Jodhaa Akbar and many more. She also appeared in the web series Mismatched, The Fame Game, Dil Dosti Dilemma and Itti Si Khushi.
Her performance in Hu Tu Tu (1999), directed by Gulzar, earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Apart from acting, she also worked as an assistant director under legends like Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. She has produced more than 60 documentaries many of which brought National Film Awards for her non-feature work.
Before entering films full-time, she reportedly studied at McGill University in Canada. Her academic background includes agricultural technology with a focus on soil chemistry and microbiology, along with a degree in mass communication.
