“Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before,” Osman said.
He then revealed that the name he had heard was Jack Lowden. However, Osman was careful to add, “It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.”
Osman also backed the possibility of Lowden taking over the role, saying, “Lowden would be an incredible Bond. He’s got real Daniel Craig energy.”
Who Is Jack Lowden?
If you know Lowden from Slow Horses, you already know that the actor has some experience playing a spy. He plays River Cartwright, an MI5 agent working at the Slough House division in the Apple TV+ series. The role has helped establish Lowden as one of the more recognisable British actors in the spy-thriller space.
His other credits include Dunkirk, Calibre, Fighting with My Family and The Gold.
Lowden is also set to play another iconic character. He stars as Mr Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The series is currently in post-production and is expected to arrive in 2026.

If Lowden is eventually cast, he would become the first Scottish actor to play James Bond since Sean Connery. Connery was the first actor to bring 007 to the big screen and remains one of the most iconic actors to have played the character. He appeared as Bond across seven films between 1962 and 1971 and later returned to the character in Never Say Never Again in 1983.
The connection makes Lowden’s potential casting even more interesting for Bond fans. Like Connery, Lowden is Scottish. However, the two actors would bring very different styles to the character. While Connery established the classic Bond template, Craig’s version was more grounded and emotionally complex.

When asked by Deadline when audiences could expect the announcement, Pascal said, “I would say the end of the year is a good bet.” For now, however, Lowden remains a potential contender, rather than the confirmed new James Bond.

The next Bond film is currently targeting a 2028 theatrical release. Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay.
Reports suggest that the audition process for the next 007 began in May, with another round expected this month.
