Marvel fans have plenty to talk about after the new trailer for VisionQuest dropped, with the upcoming Disney+ series bringing back a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. James Spader is returning as Ultron, the artificial intelligence villain who was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The trailer, which is now generating buzz online, offers a glimpse into White Vision’s complicated journey as he tries to understand his identity, memories and connection to his former life. It also gives fans their first look at several AI characters living inside Vision’s mind, including Ultron.

Who Plays Ultron In VisionQuest?

James Spader reprises his role as Ultron in VisionQuest. The actor previously voiced the powerful AI in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Ultron was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner as a peacekeeping program before developing his own destructive agenda.

Ultron also has a crucial connection to Vision. In the MCU, the character used the Mind Stone and the synthetic body originally intended for Ultron to create Vision, making Ultron one of the key figures behind the Avengers’ android hero.

Why Is Ultron Back In VisionQuest?

The new series follows White Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he attempts to reconnect with the memories of the original Vision. After the events of WandaVision, White Vision has the original Vision’s memories but struggles to understand exactly who he is.

The trailer takes viewers inside Vision’s mind, where different artificial intelligence programs appear to take human form. Among them is Ultron, giving the series a way to explore Vision’s origins and his complicated relationship with his creator. White Vision himself acknowledges the conflict in the trailer, asking: “Who am I?” He adds, “I was an Avenger, but I’m not a hero anymore. I have his face but not his virtue. All I have is his name.”

Who Appears In The VisionQuest Trailer?

The trailer also introduces several other AI characters. James D’Arcy returns as J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI originally created by Tony Stark that eventually became Vision. Orla Brady plays F.R.I.D.A.Y., while Henry Lewis appears as D.U.M.-E, Jonathan Sayer as U and Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H.

The series also introduces Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd, who is expected to have an important connection to Tommy Maximoff, Wanda and Vision’s other son.

VisionQuest is being developed by Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas and will continue the story established by WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

When Will VisionQuest Release On Disney+?

VisionQuest is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. With Paul Bettany returning as White Vision and James Spader back as Ultron, the series could provide some major answers about Vision’s past and potentially set up the next chapter of his story.
