Who was Sharada Iyer? Malayalam Singer Chitra Iyer’s Sister Who Died While Trekking in Oman

Sharada Iyer, sister of singer Chitra Iyer, dies in a trekking accident in Oman’s Jebel Shams, family, fans mourn the adventurous 52 year old.

The trekker community and the music lovers are left aghast with the sudden departure of Sharada Iyer, the sister of the well-known Malayalam playback singer Chitra Iyer. Sharada Iyer passed away at the age of 52 in an untoward incident occurring during her trekking experience in the hilly terrain of the Oman Jebal Shams region.

Singer Chitra Iyer’s Sister Passes Away

Sharada Iyer is a former manager at Oman Air, was trekking in Wadi Ghul in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with a group of people when the incident took place on January 2. Although the reasons for the accident are not known, according to local sources, steep mountains and uneven trekking trails are some of the dangers in the region. The mortal remains of Sharada Iyer are expected in Kerala and her final rites are scheduled for January 7 at her ancestral house in Thazhava.

Who was Sharada Iyer?

Sharada Iyer was a native and a lifetime resident of Thazhava, situated in Kerala. Sharada was a product of a family with a strong agricultural background. Her late parents were agricultural scientists Dr. R. D. Iyer and Dr. Rohini Iyer. Sharada had been a resident of Oman throughout her working life and had been known as a very adventurous person who enjoyed activities such as trekking. Sharada had returned to Oman just a few days back on December 24th after attending her father’s funeral rites that occurred on December 11th.

Chitra Iyer Pays Emotional Tribute to Sister Lost in Oman Trek: “You Run Too Fast”

Chitra Iyer’s tribute to her sister was in the form of a very emotionally charged post on her social networking account, which carries both feelings of sadness and admiration for her sister. 

She wrote, “Run along, feisty little banshee of a sister! You run too fast! But I’ll catch up. eventually. soon, I promise.”
