The Call The Midwife star Helen George has opened up about one of the most heartbreaking experiences she has ever faced where she revealed why she had to fly to the Bahamas just a day after her boyfriend was diagnosed with leukaemia.
The actress shared that the difficult phase began in 2025 when she was dating a man whose identity she has chosen not to reveal. Although the relationship was still new, his sudden diagnosis changed everything almost overnight. Despite the emotional turmoil, George had to leave for the Bahamas the very next day to film ITV’s Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters.
Helen George Reveals What Happened Before Her Bahamas Trip
“I had been dating someone who very suddenly got diagnosed with leukaemia,” George said on the Mystic Mates podcast.
She added, “It was pretty serious from the start and he knew.”
The actress then revealed how everything unfolded.
“The next day after that happened, I had to fly out to the Bahamas to film the ITV shark documentary.”
Although work took her thousands of miles away, George admitted it was difficult to focus while knowing someone she cared about was going through such a serious health battle.
Helen George Says She Broke Down Between Shoots
George shared that filming was emotionally draining because she often found herself thinking about her boyfriend. Whenever she got a break from work, she would call her best friend and Mystic Mates co-host Yvette Robinson to let her emotions out.
Recalling those conversations, the actress said she would “sob down the phone about this lovely, beautiful man.”
She later revealed that her boyfriend died after being diagnosed with leukaemia.
A Clairvoyant Reading Left Helen George In Tears
George also recalled an emotional experience during a recent visit to a clairvoyant.
She said, “I went to this clairvoyant last week and she said, ‘This is your ex boyfriend, and he died very suddenly after you started dating him. He’s come into the room because he’s not very happy about your situation.'”
The actress admitted hearing those words made her emotional because she found comfort in believing he was still watching over her.
She added, “He was angry that he’d left me looking for someone else and then finding someone else who wasn’t suitable.”
Helen George’s Personal Life
Following his death, George had a brief relationship with businessman Dan Innes before the two split earlier this year. She was previously married to actor Oliver Boot between 2011 and 2015 and later dated her Call The Midwife costar Jack Ashton from 2016 to 2023. The former couple share two daughters.
