At first, the family fears that Wesley may be abusive. But the truth turns out to be more complicated. During the rehearsal dinner, the couple’s secrets finally come out. Wesley had cheated on Jasmine before proposing to her. Instead of ending the relationship, Jasmine stayed with him and decided to cheat on him in return. Her decision had serious consequences.
Jasmine contracted an STD. The revelation is particularly painful for Angela and Marcus because it echoes their own past. In the first Why Did I Get Married?, their marriage was nearly destroyed by infidelity and an STD. The next generation has unknowingly repeated the same cycle.

The parents eventually realise that keeping their past mistakes hidden may have created an impossible standard for their children.

Yes. Despite everything coming out, Jasmine and Wesley decide to go ahead with the wedding. Their decision does not mean that the betrayal, hurt or consequences have magically disappeared.
Instead, they choose to move forward with a clearer understanding of what marriage will require from both of them. Marcus also has an important moment of realisation. He admits that part of his dislike for Wesley came from seeing himself in him. He also struggles with the idea of letting his daughter go.
At the ceremony, Marcus walks Jasmine down the aisle and asks Wesley to remember how certain he feels about Jasmine in that moment whenever their marriage eventually faces difficult times.

Jasmine and Wesley’s relationship is not the only romance facing judgment. Roselyn, Wesley’s mother, has been hiding her relationship with Nick, her younger boyfriend and Wesley’s former middle school tutor. Roselyn keeps Nick a secret because she fears how her family will react to their age difference. Wesley is particularly angry when Nick appears in Italy. His resentment also comes from his complicated feelings about his parents’ divorce. He blames Roselyn for the breakup and initially struggles to accept that she has moved on. But Roselyn eventually tells him the truth.
Harvey, Wesley’s father, had struggled with drug addiction and was unable to maintain a stable life. Roselyn had worked hard to support the family while trying to protect her sons from the reality of what was happening. Nick supports Roselyn and encourages her to stop hiding.

The Lake Como wedding ultimately becomes a lesson about breaking cycles. Jasmine and Wesley’s relationship mirrors the mistakes Angela and Marcus once made. But unlike their parents, the younger couple is forced to confront the damage instead of pretending everything is perfect. The parents also have to accept that protecting their children from their past did not necessarily protect them.
