Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri have been summoned by a Chandigarh court in connection with an alleged cheating case linked to a Being Human jewellery showroom. The case began with a complaint filed by a Chandigarh businessman, who has accused the Bollywood superstar, Alvira and others associated with the jewellery business of allegedly inducing him to invest in a venture that eventually collapsed. He added that this causes him financial losses of around ₹3 crore.
Reports suggest that the court has directed Salman Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and directors of Style and Content Jewellery Pvt Ltd to appear on October 5. This came after it issued notices under the proviso to Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at the pre-cognisance stage.
Why Were Salman Khan And Alvira Summoned?
The complaint was filed by Arun Gupta, a businessman from Manimajra in Chandigarh. His advocate Rajwinder Singh Rajput filed the complaint under Sections 405, 409, 415, 417, 420 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the complaint, Gupta was allegedly persuaded to open a Being Human Jewellery showroom after being assured of strong brand support and promotional backing. He claimed that the business proposition was presented as a lucrative opportunity linked to Salman Khan’s popular Being Human brand. The complainant alleged that these assurances turned out to be false, and resulted in financial losses. As per reports, Gupta has pegged his losses at nearly ₹3 crore.
What Is Alvira Khan Agnihotri’s Role?
Salman Khan’s name appears because of his association with the Being Human brand. However, Alvira Khan Agnihotri has also been named in the complaint due to her association with the business entities connected to the jewellery venture.
The complainant has alleged that six individuals linked to the company, including Salman Khan and Alvira, misrepresented the business prospects and induced him to invest in the showroom. The court has not ruled on the merits of these allegations, it has only issued summons seeking the accused’s response.
What Does The Complaint Allege?
According to the complaint, Gupta invested heavily after allegedly being promised that Salman Khan would personally inaugurate the showroom and promote it on the reality show Bigg Boss.
He claimed that he spent around ₹50 lakh on renovating the showroom and another ₹1 crore on purchasing jewellery stock. However, when the showroom was inaugurated in November 2018, Salman Khan allegedly did not attend. Instead, it was actor Aayush Sharma who attended the event.
What Has The Court Said?
While issuing the summons, the Chandigarh court observed that the accused were entitled to a procedural safeguard under Section 223 of the BNSS before cognisance of the complaint is taken.
The court noted that the right to a prior hearing is rooted in the principles of natural justice, fair trial and directed all accused to appear before it on October 5, 2026.
Company’s Response
Reports say that the company has denied the allegations and maintained that Salman Khan had no direct involvement in the 2018 business arrangement.
According to the company’s stand, the Salman Khan Foundation had merely licensed the Being Human brand to Style and Content Jewels Pvt Ltd in 2015. It asserted that the company alone was responsible for the jewellery business, including its operations, promotions and sales, and that Salman Khan was not a party to the transaction with the Chandigarh businessman.
