Think the Widow’s Bay finale was wild? The creator says that was just the setup. The last episode of the horror-comedy show ended with major revelations, a terrifying death, and eight mysterious church bells hinting that something even worse is coming. The good news? It looks like the story is only getting started.
In a recent chat, Katie Dippold shared an exciting update about Season 2. According to him, Season 1 was only the beginning, setting the stage for what comes next.
What Did Katie Dippold Say About Widow’s Bay 2?
Speaking about the show’s future with The Wrap, Dippold revealed that the first season “almost feels like a prequel to the idea of the show.” In other words, the strange happenings, eerie island secrets and supernatural mysteries were all just laying the foundation for a much bigger story.
Widow’s Bay Finale Twist
In the finale episode, Mayor Tom Loftis learned a devastating truth about his family’s connection to the island. Tom discovered that his late wife was actually Ruth’s secret child, making his son Evan the last surviving descendant of the Warren bloodline.
The revelation carries horrifying consequences, as island lore suggests that Evan may need to die to break the ancient covenant that has haunted Widow’s Bay for generations.
The Mystery Behind Eight Bells
If viewers were left unsettled by the final moments, that was entirely intentional. After the storm passed, Tom and Evan heard church bells ring eight additional times. While Tom doesn’t yet understand their meaning, he knows enough to realise that the sound signals something terrible.
Earlier in the finale, Dale uncovered recordings that detailed generations of human sacrifices made to satisfy the island’s mysterious entity. Meanwhile, Kenny’s horrifying death appeared to temporarily appease the creature. The eight bells now suggest that one sacrifice may not have been enough and that eight more souls could be required.
What To Expect From Widow’s Bay Season 2?
Dippold has hinted that Tom will enter Season 2 in a much darker emotional state as he struggles to come to terms with the reality surrounding his family and the island. The creator also teased exciting possibilities for the future. There will be flashback-focused episodes giving a peek into Widow’s Bay’s history. Even a potential spinoff story set within the same universe could also be on the cards.
