Despite defeating Sri Lanka in their final Super 8 match by five runs, Pakistan crashed out of T20 World Cup 2026. The Men in Green faced a complex path to the semi-finals of the 20-team tournament but could not crack it and Sri Lanka, who had already been knocked out, took Pakistan with them. However, it’s worth wondering what is the prize money Pakistan will receive.
ICC yet to officially announce the breakdown of prize money for T20 World Cup 2026
Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to announce the prize pool structure of the marquee tournament. Nevertheless, the prize pool allocated by the apex body of cricket was $11.25 million; hence, it is expected to rise this year. Team India, who had lifted the trophy in 2024, received a humungous prize money of $2.45 million, while runners-up South Africa, who lost in heartbreaking fashion, earned $1.28 million.
Teams that reached Super 8s or second round earned between $382,500 and $247,500. Hence, if the structure remains the same Pakistan will receive the same amount after being eliminated in the Super 8 stage. The 2009 champions will also get $124,616 for winning three-group stage games as teams received $31,154 for their wins in group stage.
“Could’ve been a different story had we won the toss” – Salman Ali Agha
Having survived a late scare from Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka in defence of 212, Salman Ali Agha admitted that Pakistan’s middle-order meltdown cost them a healthy total. He explained in the post-game presentation:
“Was always challenging after losing the toss because of dew. Could’ve been a different story had we won the toss. Dew was a factor. We couldn’t execute plans. Usman had an off-day, it can happen. We couldn’t bat well throughout the tournament. If Farhan had more support, it’d have been better. Middle order has been a problem for a few years now, we’ll have to look at that.”
Pakistan could be in for a massive reset after another poor T20 World Cup.
