New Delhi: A shocking yet heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday morning (July 10), when 17-year-old National Defence Academy (NDA) cadet, named Abhinav Bajpai, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, died after suffering a medical emergency during a routine physical training (PT) session. According to reports, he was rushed to the Military Hospital in Khadakwasla, where doctors attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful.
Who Was the Cadet and What Happened During the PT Session?
Abhinav Bajpai had joined the National Defence Academy on June 24 as part of the latest batch of first-term cadets. Friday’s PT session was the first official physical training parade for the new entrants. According to the Defence Public Relations Office (PRO), Pune, Bajpai complained of feeling unwell during the routine morning training before suddenly losing consciousness. Academy officials immediately initiated emergency medical protocols and evacuated him to the Military Hospital, Khadakwasla. Despite intensive resuscitative efforts by the medical team, Bajpai could not be revived and was declared dead.
What Has the Ministry of Defence Said About the Incident?
In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the cadet suffered a medical emergency during the routine PT session. It said the academy responded promptly by shifting him to the Military Hospital for immediate treatment. The ministry noted that doctors made every possible effort to save the 17-year-old cadet. However, despite sustained medical intervention, he succumbed to the medical emergency. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
