8th Pay Commission: The 8th Central Pay Commission has officially started its consultation process with employee unions and associations. The first round of meetings is scheduled to take place in Delhi from April 28 to April 30.
The notice issued on April 24, 2026, the Commission stated that it has received a large number of requests for participation during this three-day interaction window. Due to time limitations, not all stakeholders will be able to attend in this initial phase, although efforts will be made to include as many groups as possible.
8th Pay Commission: More Meetings to Be Held Across India
The Commission has clarified that this is only the starting point of a wider consultation exercise. Additional meetings will be organised not just in Delhi but also across different states and Union Territories in the coming months.
Stakeholders outside the Delhi-NCR region have been asked to wait for future schedules, as the Commission plans to visit various locations to gather feedback. As part of its outreach, a team had earlier been scheduled to visit Dehradun on April 24.
8th Pay Commission: Rs 72,000 Salary Buzz Not Official
Amid the ongoing discussions, there has been widespread talk about a possible minimum salary of ₹72,000 for central government employees. However, this figure has not been officially proposed.
The number is largely based on estimates and different fitment factor calculations being discussed in reports, rather than any formal submission.
8th Pay Commission: Official Proposal Suggests ₹69,000 Minimum Pay
So far, the only structured proposal has come from the National Council–Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), Staff Side.
In its memorandum, the body has recommended a minimum basic salary of ₹69,000 along with a fitment factor of 3.83. This remains the only official demand submitted as part of the consultation process.
8th Pay Commission: Final Recommendations Yet to Come
At present, the Pay Commission is in the consultation stage, where it is collecting feedback from employee groups and other stakeholders. Final decisions regarding salaries, allowances, and fitment factors will be made only after these discussions are completed.
Since the process is still at an early stage, employees are advised to rely only on official announcements. Any circulating figures should be treated with caution until the Commission releases its final recommendations.
