8th Pay Commission Latest News: The All India NPS Employees Federation (AINPSEF) has submitted a detailed memorandum to the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC), outlining several demands aimed at improving salaries, allowances, and benefits for central government employees and pensioners.
The 8th Pay Commission has entered its eighth month of functioning and is currently holding consultations with employee organisations, unions, and other stakeholders. The commission is conducting state visits and discussions to collect suggestions before preparing its final recommendations.
The panel is headed by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. It also includes former IAS officer Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary and Professor Pulak Ghosh, Tenured Professor of Finance and Member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, as a member. The government released the commission’s official Terms of Reference (ToR) late last year.

8th Pay Commission Latest News: Meetings and Consultations Continue
The 8th Pay Commission closed its window for receiving suggestions on June 15, while the deadline for submitting relevant data ended on June 30. The commission, which is formed every 10 years, is expected to submit its recommendations by 2027. The proposed changes will impact nearly 50 lakh central government employees and around 65 lakh retired central government pensioners, including defence personnel and other retirees.
The commission has already conducted several meetings with employee groups, unions, and stakeholders during April, May, and June. More discussions are scheduled in July, with additional consultations planned across states and union territories. These discussions are considered important as employee associations represent a large workforce, including staff from sectors such as railways, defence, and other government departments.
When Will the 8th Pay Commission Recommendations Be Announced?
Based on previous timelines, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to submit its final recommendations within 18 months of its formation. This suggests that official recommendations may come between February and May 2027. Dr Manjeet Singh Patel, National President of the All India NPS Employees Federation and National Mission for Old Pension Scheme Bharat, told India Today that the announcement could arrive in April next year, coinciding with the beginning of the new financial year.
However, past pay commission trends indicate that implementation usually takes additional time. After recommendations are submitted, the government generally requires another two to three years for complete rollout. This means that even if salary hikes are announced in 2027, employees may see full implementation only by 2029 or 2030.
