Aadhaar Update: Can You Change Father’s Name to Husband’s Name in Aadhaar?

Yes. UIDAI allows users to change their relationship information, which includes “Care of (C/o)” details. After marriage, women can replace their father’s name with their husband’s name by submitting valid supporting documents.

Aadhaar Update: Documents Required

There are a few documents that you will need any one of the following:

  • Marriage certificate issued by a competent authority
  • Passport showing spouse’s name
  • Ration card with husband’s name
  • Joint bank passbook
  • You will need any UIDAI-approved Proof of Relationship (PoR)

Aadhaar Update: How to Change Aadhaar Details Online

  1. You are required to visit the UIDAI Self Service Update Portal (SSUP)
  2. Afterwards, you need to log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP
  3. Select Update Aadhaar Online
  4. Choose the Relationship Details option
  5. Enter your husband’s name correctly
  6. Upload the supporting document
  7. Now, you have to review the details and submit the request
  8. After submission, you will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) to track the update status. The update usually reflects within 7–10 days.

Aadhaar Update: How to Change Aadhaar Details Offline

  1. Firstly, you have to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Enrollment Centre
  2. After that, you have to fill out the Aadhaar correction form
  3. Mention the husband’s name under relationship details
  4. Submit photocopies of supporting documents
  5. Now, you need to provide biometric verification if required
  6. You will receive an acknowledgment slip for tracking.

  • You have to ensure the name spelling matches official documents
  • Updates are subject to UIDAI verification
  • Aadhaar updates are usually free or carry a nominal fee
