School & College Closed: To take a precautionary measure against continuing protests in the Kashmir Valley, all schools and colleges will be shut down during two days, 2 – 3 March, 2026. This move is a result of the poor political situation in the region especially after the recent assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that has been disrupting normal life in the area. The officials stressed that the welfare of the students is priority.

Kashmir Schools & Colleges Closed for Two Days

The Jammu and Kashmir government declared that all the educational institutions, both government and privates schools while colleges and universities will be closed. Education Minister Sakina Itoo said she had to close it down to ensure that students, staff would be safe and administration kept order amidst increased tensions.

Educational Institutions Impacted by Closure

The shutdown of the temporary covers a broad range of institutions:

  • Central University of Kashmir (CUK) – suspended classwork.
  • University of Kashmir (KU) – exams and classes delayed.
  • Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) – everything postponed in classes and exams.
  • Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) – exams until March 23.
  • Government Degree Colleges such as GDC Baramulla and Islamia College Srinagar, suspended the exams to be conducted on March 24.

This affects thousands of learners in the valley and postpones restructuring of school programs, including elementary schools which would otherwise be reopening after their winter holiday.

Why Schools & Colleges Remain Closed

Officials mentioned continuing protests and possible dangers to the civic order as the causes of the ban. The upheaval comes after the West Asian developments and the assassination of the Khamenei that led to protests in various sections of the valley. Sensitive areas have been deployed with security forces to guard against any disruption to maintain law and order.

Impact on Students & Exams

Tests in various institutions are delayed:

  • Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) – March 23 exam pushed.
  • University of Kashmir (KU) – testing to be held in March 2 delayed.
  • GDC Baramulla- March 2 exams delayed.
  • Isfahani School Srinagar postponed exam to March 2-4.

New dates will be announced when the situation normalizes to impact thousands of candidates.

How Authorities Are Ensuring Safety in Kashmir

  • Deployment of Security Forces in sensitive and high-traffic areas to maintain law and order.
  • Temporary suspension of classes in all government and private schools, colleges and universities.
  • Postponement of examinations scheduled during the two-day period to prevent gatherings.
  • Close monitoring of protests and public gatherings by police and civil administration officials.
  • Regular ground assessments by local authorities to decide when it is safe to reopen institutions.
  • Coordination with emergency services to respond quickly to any incidents during the closure.
  • Communication with parents and students to ensure awareness of closures and safety measures.
  • Restricted access to potentially volatile areas near protest sites or high-density zones.

Monitoring & Future Decisions

The state is going to be sensitive of the situation within the following two days. According to the education Minister Itoo, decisions on reopening will be made after ground assessment and added that the closure is not meant to be anything more than precautionary in order to safeguard students and staff.
