Heavy rain triggered separate flash flood and landslide incidents in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday evening, leaving five Army personnel missing in Dibang Valley and killing four people in Upper Subansiri district. Search and rescue operations are underway at both locations.
What Happened In Dibang Valley?
A flash flood caused by heavy rainfall washed away two Army shelters at the Pasu Pani Army Camp in Dibang Valley district on Friday evening. Seven personnel from the 5th Grenadier were swept away. Two were rescued, while five remain missing. The missing personnel have been identified as Havaldar Upendar and Army personnel Kundan, Vinod, Aditya and Samunda.
Two search and rescue teams from the 5th Grenadier have been deployed. Personnel from the 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 62 RCC of the General Reserve Engineer Force, Arunachal Pradesh Police and local volunteers are also assisting in the operation. An SDRF team from Pasighat is being sent to Anini to support the rescue efforts.
How Many People Were Killed In The Upper Subansiri Landslide?Â
A landslide struck the Keojaring-Byaching road construction site in Upper Subansiri district, burying several people under debris. Four people were reported dead. The deceased were identified as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali. The body of Babul Ali has been recovered. Personnel from Nacho Police Station are carrying out search and recovery operations, while Fire and Emergency Services teams from Daporijo and an SDRF team are being mobilised to assist. Authorities are continuing rescue and recovery operations in both districts as heavy rain remains a concern in the region.
