The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Monday, with the death toll rising to 100 after two more people died in the past 24 hours. More than 1.37 lakh people across seven districts continue to be affected by the deluge, while rescue and relief operations remain underway. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 456 villages remain inundated and 11,933.46 hectares of crop area have been damaged. Authorities are operating 125 relief camps and distribution centres across six districts, providing shelter and assistance to 49,061 people.
What Is The Latest Assam Flood Situation?
The two latest deaths were reported from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts, taking the total number of flood-related deaths in Assam this year to 100. Seven districts, Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar remain affected. Golaghat is the worst hit district, with nearly 70,000 people affected, followed by Sivasagar with around 40,000 and Jorhat with more than 16,000.
Which Rivers Are Flowing Above Danger Level?
Several rivers in Assam are continuing to flow above the danger mark, raising concerns about further flooding. The Dhansiri river at Golaghat and Numaligarh and the Kushiyara river at Sribhumi are above the danger level. Authorities have advised people, particularly in areas along the Dhansiri, to stay away from the river as water levels continue to rise.
With hundreds of villages inundated and thousands of residents dependent on relief support, the flood situation remains severe across the affected districts.
