Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, publicly announced his intention to divorce his wife, Aparna Yadav, in a series of social media posts containing severe personal allegations. The posts accuse the BJP-linked Aparna Yadav of damaging his family relationships and label her a "liar," escalating a private marital dispute into a public political spectacle.
In posts on Instagram, Prateek Yadav made direct personal accusations against his wife. He stated she "broke my relationship with my mother, broke my relationship with my father, broke my relationship with my brother." He further claimed she is the "biggest liar and self-interested person" he has seen and described her as a "bad soul." Prateek Yadav also said he was going through a difficult mental phase and alleged his wife was indifferent, stating she "only bothers about herself."
The dispute bridges two major rival political parties in Uttar Pradesh. Prateek Yadav is a member of the Samajwadi Party's first family. Aparna Yadav, formerly with the SP, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2022. She was appointed vice chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh women's commission in September 2024.
