In the early hours of Thursday, at least three people were reportedly killed, and more than 20 patients were hurt in a major fire at Prasad Hospital in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. The fire spread really quick, taking over the hospital structure as well as the wards, and corridors, and it basically all turned into a stuck, jammed sort of space with thick toxic smoke. The whole blaze caused sudden panic across patients, hospital nurses, and doctors. Emergency response teams arrived pretty fast and launched a big rescue operation, getting people out of the smoke filled building and relocating them to nearby hospitals for better treatment. Some of the rescued patients, officials say, are in a critical but delicate condition, and they worry the death toll could climb higher as assessments keep going.
What Happened Here?
According to media reports, initial reports suggested the blaze might have started due to a short circuit, but officials have not yet pinned down the full circumstances. The three victims who lost their lives in the fire have been shifted to hospital and the status, and whereabouts of everyone admitted during the fire are still being checked, said District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen. The Civil Surgeon also arrived at the spot to oversee relief work, as well as medical assistance. Authorities are now attempting to locate the evacuees, so that each one is seen at alternate treatment facilities, and not left out.

Panic And Chaos Over The Hospital
The incident has sparked outrage among relatives of patients, some of whom have accused the hospital administration of negligence. Family members said they simply never could locate their relatives after the blaze, and that hospital employees left the building during the crisis, like just disappeared. One man said his father was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and that his father died during the incident, then the hospitals never handed over his father’s body to the family. The department was informed about the fire at around 3 AM, and when it arrived, the department reportedly found the ICU packed with thick smoke, said Fire Officer RN Pandey. He also said that many staff members did not report to work when Firefighters reached the scene, which is raising concerns about how ready the hospital really was and how they responded in an emergency, at that time.
