BMC Election 2026: The BMC elections 2026 in Mumbai are at the doorstep, with over a crore eligible voters expected to vote, and checking whether your name features on the official list of voters has become a pre-requisite exercise ahead of polling. The State Election Commission of Maharashtra had urged the citizens to check their voter status well in time to avoid last-minute confusion. Only those figuring on the final electoral roll will get to vote in what is considered India’s most influential civic election.

When is BMC Elections 2026?

The Maharashtra State Election Commission has fixed January 15, 2026, as the polling date for the BMC election. This will be a single phase process where all the wards in Mumbai will cast their votes on the same day. This election is a part of the larger civic election process that is happening in the state of Maharashtra. This will see the election of 29 municipal corporations in the state on the same day. Due to the political significance of Mumbai, the election is expected to see a huge turnout.

BMC Elections 2026 Result Date

Counting of votes in the Mumbai civic elections will occur on January 16, 2026, just one day after polling. According to govt. reports, results in most wards will emerge in the late afternoon, and final votes will be announced in the same evening. The result will set the tone of the richest civic body of the nation, which handles its annual budget in crores.

Citizens can verify their voter details through multiple official platforms. Follow these steps carefully:

  • Maharashtra State Election Commission Portal
    • Visit the SEC’s dedicated voter list website.
    • Enter your full name or EPIC (Voter ID) number.
    • Select your district, ward, and polling area to view details.
  • National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP)
    • Go to the Election Commission of India’s voter services website.
    • Click on “Search your name in electoral roll.”
    • Use your EPIC number or personal details to locate your record.
  • Voter Helpline Mobile App
    • Download the official Voter Helpline App from the Election Commission.
    • Log in and search your voter status instantly.
    • The app also shows polling booth location and voter slip details.
  • Offline Verification
    • Visit your local ward office or polling booth help desk.
    • Carry a valid identity document for assistance.

Voters whose names are missing must act quickly, as only those on the final roll can cast their ballot.

BMC Election Total Seats

The BMC is India’s largest municipal council with 227 seats. A party or alliance requires 114 seats for a majority to run the civic body. In all, 227 seats are divided into the three major areas of South Mumbai, Western Suburbs and Eastern Suburbs, in both general and reserved categories. The fallout will determine Mumbai’s governance on basic issues like infrastructure, housing, health and public transport for the next five years.
