Jana Nayagan' delay deliberate; CBFC appeal will anger TN (Image: File)
New Delhi, Jan 9 — Even as Madras High Court stayed the release of actor turned politician Vijay's movie Jana Nayagan order within a few hours of its pronouncement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin slammed the BJP saying besides the central agencies now CBFC has also become a new weapon for it.
In a post on X in Tamil, Stalin said, "CBI, ED, Income Tax, the Censor Board has also become a new weapon of the BJP government. Strong condemnations!"
He wrote the post with the hash tag of #CBFC.
The strong condemnation from the DMK leader came after a single judge of the Madras High Court, on Friday directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue U/A 16+ certificate. However, the first Division Bench of the court that heard an appeal stayed the order within a few hours of its pronouncement.
The Madras High Court also said it would hear the matter in detail on January 21. Thus the last big-screen release of Jana Nayagan has been delayed for two weeks, with Vijay’s fans left disappointed as his much-anticipated film following a major controversy surrounding its censor certification.
Earlier on Friday morning, the Madras High Court had directed the CBFC to grant Vijay’s film a U/A 16+ certificate. Following this, the CBFC urgently filed an appeal before the High Court against the single judge’s order.
Subsequently, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court temporarily stayed the single judge’s order passed earlier in the day.
Stalin had earlier targeted the BJP for misusing the central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the IT Department against the opposition parties.
Vijay, who floated his TVK in Tamil Nadu is all set to contest in the upcoming polls.
Many actors and politicians have slammed the CBFC and supported Vijay for stalling the release of Jana Nayagan over certification issur, which was set to hit the theatres on January 9.
