Yellow Alert has been issued for Chennai City by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for today. The city is expected to witness a hot and humid day with increasing cloud cover, as pre-monsoon conditions continue across Tamil Nadu. The IMD forecast indicates partly cloudy to generally cloudy skies, with the possibility of light rain or isolated thunderstorms later in the day, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Light breeze is expected to blow throughout the city, around 15 to 20 km/hr. While Chennai may begin the day with dry and warm conditions, increasing moisture and cloud development over coastal Tamil Nadu could trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms in some parts of the city later in the day. However, widespread heavy rainfall is not expected within the city limits today.

The period is also expected to feature isolated to scattered thunderstorms and occasional rain showers. Meanwhile, the advance of the Southwest Monsoon over neighbouring Kerala is drawing substantial moisture into the atmosphere, resulting in high humidity levels and uncomfortable conditions across Chennai.
