New Delhi: The Parliamentary Committee on Public Undertakings (CoPU), chaired by BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Jay Panda, on Thursday presented six reports in Parliament covering the performance of key Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and recommending measures to strengthen governance, accountability and operational efficiency.
The Committee on Public Undertakings (2026–27) of the 18th Lok Sabha tabled one Comprehensive Examination Report, one Horizontal Examination Report and four Action Taken Reports (ATRs), spanning sectors including power, insurance, telecommunications, nuclear energy and petroleum.
Among the reports presented was a Comprehensive Examination Report on NHPC Limited and a Horizontal Examination Report reviewing the performance of insurance sector Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs).Â
The Committee also tabled four Action Taken Reports on the audit relating to the setting up of 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots by BSNL, the Comprehensive Examination of REC Limited, the Comprehensive Examination of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and the Horizontal Examination of the performance of petroleum and natural gas sector CPSUs.
According to the Committee, the reports assess the functioning of major PSUs and recommend steps to improve governance standards, transparency, accountability and operational efficiency across strategic sectors.
A key report reviewed the performance of insurance sector CPSUs, with the Committee stressing the need to increase insurance penetration across the country in line with the government’s vision of “Insurance for All by 2047”. It also highlighted the importance of accelerating digital transformation in the insurance ecosystem to improve accessibility and expand the availability of affordable insurance products.
The Committee noted that leveraging digital technologies could help strengthen financial protection for citizens while improving service delivery and operational efficiency within public sector insurance companies.
Highlighting its performance, the Committee said it has significantly increased its productivity over the past two years under Panda’s chairmanship. It presented 12 reports during the 2024–25 term and 18 reports during 2025–26. The Committee also achieved milestones by tabling eight reports in a single day in 2024 and eleven reports in one day in 2025.
For the 2026–27 parliamentary year, the Committee has identified 21 subjects for detailed examination. These include key sectors such as aviation, railways, coal, renewable energy investments and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in Public Sector Undertakings.
The Committee’s work programme also includes comprehensive examinations of major Central Public Sector Undertakings, including ONGC Videsh Limited, NewSpace India Limited and Cochin Shipyard Limited.
The Committee acknowledged the contributions of its members, stating that their active participation and deliberations have played a vital role in the effective discharge of its parliamentary responsibilities.
