The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a Red Alert for Dehradun along with its surrounding areas regarding the occurrence of extreme rainfall, lightning and chances of landslide in the region.

Due to the safety of students being their primary concern, the government of the Dehradun district has declared the closing down of schools and Anganwadi centers on July 21. As per the data from IMD, around 1,200-1,500 mm of rainfall is experienced annually in Uttarakhand.
