Delhi is likely to witness generally cloudy skies with spells of very light to light rain on Saturday, August 15, as the national capital celebrates its 80th Independence Day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for all districts, with thunderstorms and light rain expected during the morning. The weather department has forecast brief spells of rain around the Red Fort during the Independence Day celebrations, although no significant heavy rainfall is expected during the main morning programme.
Will It Rain During Independence Day Celebrations At Red Fort?
According to the IMD forecast, the Red Fort area could receive very light to light rain during the morning. A spell of around 2-4 mm rainfall is likely between 7 am and 9 am, with a 50 per cent probability.
No significant rainfall was expected between 6 am and 7 am. Another spell of around 3 mm rainfall could occur between noon and evening, with a 60 per cent probability. The minimum temperature in the Red Fort area is expected to remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature could settle between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.

The IMD issued a yellow alert for all Delhi districts early Saturday, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning until 9 am. The weather office has also forecast generally cloudy conditions across the city. Some isolated areas could continue to receive rain after the morning hours.
Skymet meteorologist Mahesh Palawat said the monsoon trough is expected to move northwestwards, with a low-pressure area likely to develop over southeast Uttar Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh around August 15.
How Much Rain Did Delhi Receive On Friday?
Delhi received light to moderate rainfall on Friday, bringing down temperatures across the city. Safdarjung recorded 20.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 5.30 pm, while Palam received 12.6 mm, Lodhi Road 6.4 mm and Ridge 26.2 mm. Ayanagar did not record any rainfall during the period. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 30.5 degrees Celsius, which was 3.3 degrees below normal.
