Monsoon conditions strengthened across Delhi and neighbouring parts of the National Capital Region on Monday, bringing intense showers to Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. The downpour provided relief from heat and humidity but also disrupted road and air travel across the region. The adverse weather affected operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while waterlogging and traffic congestion were reported at several major roads.
How Has Heavy Rain Affected Delhi Airport?
Flight operations at Delhi airport were affected by the deteriorating weather, with 15 flights diverted to other airports, according to sources. Of the diverted flights, 12 were sent to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow. Three of the diverted services were international flights. FlightRadar24 data showed the average delay at Delhi airport at around 32 minutes, with nearly 262 flights affected or delayed amid the weather conditions.
Passengers travelling through the airport have been advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport.
Which Areas Are Under An Orange Rain Alert?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Gurugram and Faridabad under an orange alert, warning of heavy rainfall in the two districts. Further showers are also expected across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions. Heavy rain has additionally been forecast in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana.Â
The continued rainfall could cause fresh waterlogging and disruption, particularly in low-lying areas.

Where Has Waterlogging Been Reported In Gurugram?
Gurugram witnessed significant water accumulation on the service road along Sohna Road near Islampur village. Around two feet of water collected on the stretch, slowing traffic and contributing to a congestion stretch of nearly 4 km. Vehicles were seen moving slowly as commuters struggled to navigate the flooded road.
Why Is Traffic Affected In Delhi?
Several parts of the capital witnessed traffic slowdowns after the rain. MB Road near Sangam Vihar was among the affected stretches, with particularly heavy congestion reported between Vayusenabad and Sangam Vihar. Commuters heading towards the airport, Saket Court and workplaces reported being stuck for extended periods. The disruption was especially difficult for passengers travelling to catch flights, with some commuters expressing concern about reaching Delhi airport on time.
How Has Rain Affected Noida And Ghaziabad?
Heavy showers were also recorded across Noida, including areas around Sectors 16, 39 and 95. In Ghaziabad, waterlogging was reported near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9. Cars and two-wheelers struggled to cross the flooded section, while some motorists stopped on the roadside until the water level fell. The rain also forced pedestrians to seek shelter under covered areas as showers continued.
While the downpour brought welcome relief from high temperatures and humidity, authorities and commuters continue to face challenges from waterlogging and disrupted transport.
What Is The Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast?
The IMD has forecast more monsoon activity across Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas in the coming days. With additional rainfall expected, authorities have warned of the possibility of further waterlogging and traffic problems. Residents travelling during periods of heavy rain are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and check weather and transport updates before heading out.
