Heavy rain continued to lash Delhi on Friday morning, a day after intense showers caused waterlogging and disrupted traffic across several parts of the national capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, forecasting more moderate to heavy rainfall through the day, while Delhi Airport has advised passengers to check their flight status before travelling.
What Is The IMD Weather Forecast For Delhi Today?
The IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky with heavy rainfall on Friday. Moderate to heavy rain is likely during the forenoon and afternoon, followed by light rain during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature at Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees below normal.

According to the IMD, Delhi recorded its wettest day of August so far this year during the 24 hour period ending at 8:30 am on Friday. Rainfall recorded at major weather stations includes:
•   Lodhi Road: 60.4 mm
•   Safdarjung: 59.2 mm
•   Ridge: 57 mm
•   Ayanagar: 26.2 mm
•   Palam: 16.9 mm
The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas and affected normal movement across parts of the city.

Minimum temperatures across key weather stations were recorded as follows:
•   Safdarjung: 25.6°C
•   Palam: 23.2°C
•   Lodhi Road: 25.2°C
•   Ridge: 22.1°C
•   Ayanagar: 24.8°C
Humidity stood at 98% at 8:30 am, contributing to muggy conditions despite the rainfall.
Has Delhi Airport issued a weather advisory?
Yes. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory, saying flight operations are currently normal despite the IMD’s forecast of adverse weather around the airport. Airport authorities said on-ground teams are coordinating with stakeholders to minimise disruptions and advised passengers to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport.
What Is Delhi’s Air Quality Today?
Despite the rain, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘Satisfactory’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was 62 on Friday morning. An AQI between 51 and 100 falls under the satisfactory category.
