Panic briefly gripped parts of the national capital on Wednesday after several schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails while students were appearing for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examinations. The threats triggered emergency responses, forcing evacuations and heightened security checks at examination centres.
Officials confirmed that at least three schools reported receiving threatening emails during the ongoing CBSE exams, prompting swift action from emergency services and law enforcement agencies.
According to officials, bomb threat emails were sent to CRPF Public School, St Thomas School, and DAV Centenary Public School.
A senior Delhi Fire Services officer said, "We received information about bomb threat e-mails sent to three schools: CRPF Public School and St Thomas School in Dwarka, and DAV Centenary Public School in Paschim Enclave. Fire tenders and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the locations as a precautionary measure," as reported by PTI.
Soon after the alerts, Delhi Police deployed bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and local administration officials at all affected school campuses. As a safety measure, school authorities evacuated students and staff from the premises while security teams carried out thorough checks.
Officials said initial searches did not uncover any suspicious or explosive materials. However, authorities continued sanitisation and security sweeps to rule out any potential risk and to reassure students and parents.
The evacuation and checks caused temporary disruption, but officials ensured that student safety remained the top priority during the examination period.
The Delhi Police confirmed that cybercrime units have begun tracing the source of the threatening emails. Investigators are examining technical details to establish whether the threats were hoaxes or part of a larger attempt to create panic during the examination season.
A police officer said,
"The e-mails are being examined to determine their source and authenticity. We are also verifying whether similar threats were sent to other institutions," reported PTI.
Authorities added that further investigation is underway, and strict action will follow if those responsible are identified.
The bomb threats came at a time when lakhs of students across the country are appearing for crucial board examinations. As per CBSE data, more than 43 lakh students have registered for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in 2026.
Around 25,08,319 students are appearing for the Class 10 exams, while nearly 18,59,551 candidates are sitting for the Class 12 examinations. The exams are conducted in a single shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, with an additional 15 minutes provided to students for reading the question paper.
Following the incident, authorities have increased vigilance at schools hosting CBSE exams across Delhi. Police patrols and monitoring have intensified to prevent panic and ensure the smooth conduct of examinations.
Officials reassured parents and students that all necessary precautions are in place and urged the public not to spread rumours or unverified information.
While the threats ultimately turned out to be non-specific, the incident has highlighted the need for strict security and rapid response systems during large-scale national examinations.
