Delhi woke up to cloudy skies and light rain on Tuesday, August 11, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast more showers across the national capital. Delhi has also maintained satisfactory air quality for 10 consecutive days, while the city’s rainfall total for August has already crossed the monthly average.
Delhi recorded 234.5 mm of rain in August up to Monday evening, compared with the monthly average of 233.1 mm.
What Is The Delhi Weather Forecast For Today?
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, forecasting generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain at most places and moderate rainfall at a few locations. Temperatures are expected to remain between 23°C and 25°C in the morning, while the maximum temperature is likely to reach around 33°C to 35°C. Moderate rain is possible from the early morning to noon, followed by very light to light showers during the evening and night.
How Much Rain Has Delhi Received In August?
Delhi recorded 230.5 mm of rainfall during the first 10 days of August up to 8.30 am on Monday. Another 4 mm was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, taking the month’s total to 234.5 mm. The figure has already surpassed Delhi’s normal August rainfall of 233.1 mm. Mayur Vihar recorded the highest rainfall on Monday at 37 mm, followed by Mungeshpur with 21 mm. Pusa received 4 mm and Narayana 3 mm.
At Safdarjung, 4 mm of rain was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Lodhi Road received 4.8 mm, while the Ridge recorded 6.8 mm.
What Is Delhi’s AQI Today?
Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index stood at 89 at 4 pm on Monday, keeping the city’s air quality in the satisfactory category for the 10th consecutive day. Delhi has recorded satisfactory air quality on every day of August so far. A similar streak during the first 10 days of August was last recorded in 2024. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, an AQI between 51 and 100 is classified as satisfactory.
Will Rain Cause Waterlogging In Delhi?
Further rain could lead to waterlogging in low lying areas, particularly during heavier spells, and may affect traffic movement across the capital. Commuters are advised to check traffic conditions before travelling and remain cautious on roads where waterlogging occurs.
