Delhi Weather Today, August 23: Delhi woke up to a noticeable change in weather conditions on Sunday as rain and cloudy skies brought relief following days of intense summer heat. While the rain was reported in multiple places in the national capital, the intensity of rain was different in the different regions of the city. The new reports from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) suggest that rainfall will be one of the characteristics of Delhi and many other parts of the country.

Delhi Weather Today, August 23: What was the latest update?

Rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi during the early hours of Sunday, bringing a pleasant change in conditions. The national capital recorded around 1 mm of rainfall between 8:30 pm on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday. According to IMD observations, light rain was recorded at isolated locations. Safdarjung reported mist along with a temperature of 27°C at 8 am. The Ridge area experienced a light thunderstorm accompanied by rain and mist, with the temperature recorded at 26°C at 7 am. The weather conditions followed rainfall activity across the capital during the preceding 24 hours. Very light to light rain was reported at many places, while isolated areas received moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

How Much Rainfall Did Different Areas Receive?

Rainfall intensity varied considerably across Delhi and nearby areas. According to IMD data recorded until 8:30 am, Pusa recorded the highest cumulative rainfall among the listed stations at 16.5 mm. The Ridge recorded 0.2 mm of cumulative rainfall, while Faridabad recorded 1.0 mm during the observation period. Temperatures across Delhi also remained relatively moderate following the rain. Minimum temperatures were recorded between 23°C and 26°C, while maximum temperatures during the previous period settled between 34°C and 35°C. The combination of rain, mist and thunderstorms provided some relief from the heat, although residents should continue to monitor weather updates as conditions can change quickly during the monsoon season.

What Is IMD Forecast for Delhi and Other States?

The latest weather outlook suggests that rainfall activity will continue across several parts of India in the coming days. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand from August 22 to 28. The extended rainfall spell could result in locally intense showers in some areas. Fairly widespread rainfall is also expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim between August 22 and 28. Jharkhand is likely to experience fairly widespread rainfall from August 23 to 28, while Bihar may see similar activity between August 24 and 26. The broader weather pattern indicates that several regions will remain under the influence of active monsoon conditions.

Where Has Heavy Rainfall Been Reported Across India?

Over the past 24 hours, parts of the country have experienced substantial rainfall. The heaviest rainfall occurred in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh. Other notable regions with heavy rainfall include Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam and Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. More rainfall is likely to occur in the following days; therefore, residents in areas that are susceptible to waterlogging, flooding, or landslides are encouraged to be cautious. There may also be visibility problems for people travelling in Delhi, where heavy rain is forecasted in addition to possible fog. Meanwhile, thunderstorms can affect road conditions temporarily. The IMD has been making a continuous effort to monitor changes in the weather and is ready to provide updates depending on the progress of the situation at the time.
