Delhi is expected to witness another rainy day on Wednesday, August 5, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the national capital. The weather department has forecast a cloudy sky, moderate rainfall, and the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas. Rainfall is expected to continue across the city until August 10, with fairly widespread to widespread showers also likely over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and eastern Uttar Pradesh between August 4 and August 6.
How Much Rain Did Delhi Receive On Tuesday?
Several parts of Delhi received rain on Tuesday, bringing relief from the humid weather. According to the IMD, Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall at 49.3 mm, followed by Safdarjung (9.4 mm), Palam (8.1 mm), Lodhi Road (3.7 mm), and Ridge (1.5 mm). In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday, Ayanagar had already received 23.6 mm of rainfall.
What Is Delhi’s Weather Forecast For Today?
The IMD has forecast one or two spells of very light to light rain across most parts of Delhi on Wednesday. Some areas may receive moderate rainfall during the morning and afternoon, while another spell of light rain is expected during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 32°C and 34°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay between 23°C and 25°C.
The showers helped reduce daytime temperatures across the city. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5°C, which was 0.7 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 27.4°C. Ayanagar remained the coolest location with a maximum temperature of 30.6°C, around 3.4 degrees below normal.
The weather department has warned that continued rainfall could lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and an increased risk of road accidents in some parts of the city. Residents have been advised to check traffic updates before travelling, avoid waterlogged roads wherever possible, and follow official weather advisories.
How Is Delhi’s Air Quality?
Rainfall has also improved Delhi’s air quality. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 64 on Tuesday evening, remaining in the “satisfactory” category for the fourth consecutive day this month.
