The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Friday, August 7, predicting more rain across the city. Residents can expect light to moderate showers, while some areas may receive heavy rainfall, leading to traffic congestion, waterlogging and difficult driving conditions. Â Another spell of light rain is expected during the evening and night.
How Will The Weather Be In Delhi Today?
The rain is expected to keep temperatures comfortable across the capital. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum temperature may stay between 22°C and 24°C. The cooler weather comes after Thursday’s widespread rainfall, which was the wettest day of August so far this year.
Delhi witnessed widespread rainfall on Thursday, with several areas recording heavy showers. Lodhi Road received the highest rainfall at 60.4 mm, followed by Safdarjung (56 mm), Ridge (54.4 mm), Ayanagar (22.3 mm) and Palam (14.6 mm). The continuous rain also brought down temperatures across the city, keeping them well below normal and providing relief from the recent humid weather.
Will Traffic And Waterlogging Continue?
The IMD has warned that heavy rain may again lead to traffic congestion and waterlogging in several parts of Delhi. Areas that witnessed major disruptions on Thursday include:

•   NH-48
•   MB Road
•   Kalindi Kunj
•   Najafgarh

People have been advised to check traffic updates before leaving home and avoid waterlogged roads wherever possible.
How Long Will The Rain Continue?
According to the IMD’s forecast, rain is expected to continue through the weekend and into next week. Light to moderate showers are likely on Saturday, while intermittent rain is expected from August 8 to August 12 under generally cloudy skies. Weather experts say the prolonged wet spell is being caused by an active monsoon trough, a western disturbance over the Himalayas and moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Despite the continuous rainfall, Delhi’s air quality is expected to remain in the ‘satisfactory’ category. The rain has helped improve atmospheric conditions by reducing pollution levels across the city.
