The southwest monsoon is expected to become active again from July 20, bringing widespread rain to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and several other northern states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for multiple regions, saying fresh weather systems are likely to trigger heavy rainfall over the next few days. According to the IMD, a new low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, stronger monsoon winds and the northward shift of the monsoon trough are expected to revive monsoon activity across North India after weeks of subdued rainfall.

Delhi is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms from July 20. The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the national capital and predicted strong winds of 20–30 kmph, with gusts reaching 40 kmph during thunderstorms. Despite the rainfall, humid conditions are likely to continue because of high moisture levels in the air. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 36°C and 38°C, while the minimum temperature could stay between 27°C and 29°C.

The IMD has forecast widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad between July 20 and July 24. Authorities have started preparing for possible waterlogging as continuous rain could affect traffic and low lying areas.

Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for Meerut, Hapur, Baghpat and Bulandshahr. The IMD has warned that some places may experience very heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding in low lying areas and damage to standing crops.

Rainfall is also expected to increase across Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, which are expected to bring some relief from the recent humid weather.
Which States Could Receive The Heaviest Rainfall?
According to the IMD, many parts of North India are likely to receive heavy rain over the next few days, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, the northeastern states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Himalayan states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir, where some places could receive more than 200 mm of rain in a short time. The weather department has warned that such heavy rain could lead to flash floods, landslides, rising river levels, road blockages, and travel disruptions, especially in hilly areas. People travelling to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
