Delhi woke up to another rainy day on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital. The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning through the day after Tuesday’s heavy downpour led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in several parts of the city.

The weather department has predicted a maximum temperature of around 32°C, while the minimum temperature may remain close to 23°C. Humidity levels are expected to stay very high throughout the day.

Yellow Alert Remains In Effect

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Wednesday due to the possibility of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall. Rainy conditions are also expected on Thursday, July 30. However, the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce from Friday onwards, with only light showers or drizzle expected until August 3.

The latest weather alert follows a day of heavy rain that affected several parts of Delhi on Tuesday. Flooded roads and waterlogged streets created problems for commuters in Connaught Place, Janpath, Rajendra Nagar, Sadar Bazar, ITO, Kalindi Kunj, Azadpur, Malviya Nagar and Ghazipur.

Water Entered Shops, Traffic Moved Slowly

The heavy rainfall not only flooded roads but also entered markets and commercial establishments in some areas. Schoolchildren in Sadar Bazar were seen walking through knee-deep water, while Rajendra Nagar, a major coaching hub, witnessed extensive flooding. Traffic remained slow on important routes such as NH-9 near Ghazipur, ITO and Mathura Road because of water accumulation.

Delhi’s civic agencies received over 100 complaints related to rain-related problems, including waterlogging, fallen trees and electricity issues. Officials from the MCD, NDMC and Public Works Department worked throughout the day to clear affected areas and restore normal services.

Advisory For Residents

Authorities have advised people to remain cautious while travelling, especially in low-lying areas where waterlogging may continue. Residents have also been asked to check weather updates before leaving home, as more rainfall is expected during the day.
