Rainfall has stopped in Delhi for now, leading to a sharp rise in temperatures over the past two days. The sun is likely to remain out for most of the day, causing temperatures to rise further after the recent break in monsoon activity. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital is expected to witness partly cloudy skies and dry weather on Sunday, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 37-39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 26°C and 28°C. Weather officials say temperatures have already increased by nearly 6°C over the past two days, and a further rise is possible.
Why Is Delhi Getting Hot Again?
The increase in temperature is mainly due to the pause in rainfall. With fewer rain clouds and more sunshine, daytime temperatures have started rising again, while humidity continues to make the weather feel hotter. On Saturday evening, although the actual temperature was 35.4°C, the feels like temperature reached 44.8°C because of high humidity.
According to the IMD, light drizzle is possible on Tuesday and Wednesday in a few parts of Delhi. For Thursday and Friday, the weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies, with no significant rainfall expected.
What Is A Monsoon Break?
A monsoon break does not mean that the monsoon season has ended. According to weather experts, it is a normal phase during the monsoon when rainfall activity temporarily weakens. During this period, cloud formation reduces, sunshine increases and temperatures begin to rise.
Weather experts say only isolated light showers are possible over the next couple of days, but the chances remain very low. Overall, Delhi is expected to witness mostly dry weather for the next week or longer, with rainfall activity remaining weak.
As rainfall decreases, humidity levels are expected to remain high. The combination of rising temperatures, strong sunshine during the day and humid evenings is likely to make the weather uncomfortable once again. Experts say the maximum temperature could reach 37-38 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
When Will It Rain Again In Delhi?
Meteorologists say the current dry spell is only temporary. Rainfall is expected to return once the monsoon system becomes active again. Until then, residents should be prepared for hot and humid conditions across Delhi and nearby areas.
