Delhi is likely to receive another spell of rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of the national capital. Light to moderate rain is expected in northern Delhi initially, followed by moderate to heavy showers over wider parts of the city.
The weather change is linked to the monsoon axis, which is currently passing over Delhi.
What Is The IMD Rain Forecast For Delhi?
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in northern parts of Delhi initially. The intensity is expected to increase, with moderate to heavy rain likely across most areas within the following few hours.
Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya said the monsoon axis is expected to shift southward, after which easterly winds will influence the region. Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh could see intermittent spells of rain through the weekend. However, the rainfall is expected to remain localised, meaning all areas may not receive showers.
Delhi Temperature Likely To Fall
The expected rainfall could provide relief from the recent heat. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The mercury is likely to fall in the coming days and is expected to remain below 33 degrees Celsius from Saturday.
Delhi AQI Reaches ‘Moderate’ Category
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality deteriorated after the city experienced relatively little rainfall over the previous couple of days. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded Delhi’s overall AQI at 134 on Thursday, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. This was the highest reading recorded in the capital since July 19, when the AQI stood at 171.
According to CPCB’s classification:
• 0-50: Good
• 51-100: Satisfactory
• 101-200: Moderate
• 201-300: Poor
• 301-400: Very Poor
• Above 400: Severe
The fresh spell of rain is expected to help bring some relief from the heat and could also influence Delhi’s air quality in the coming days.
