Who Is Eligible For The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana?
The scheme is expected to benefit economically weaker women between the ages of 21 and 60 years. According to the proposed eligibility rules, applicants should belong to families with an annual income between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is expected to announce the final guidelines and explain the application process soon.
Who Cannot Apply For The Scheme?
Certain categories of people will not be eligible for the scheme. These include families with government employees, income taxpayers, government pensioners and households that own a four-wheeler (car). The government says these restrictions are meant to ensure that the financial assistance reaches genuinely needy families.
How Will Beneficiaries Be Selected?
Beneficiaries are expected to be selected based on their family income, socio-economic background and other eligibility conditions. After applications are submitted and verified, the financial assistance will be transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The government says the entire process will be digital and transparent to ensure timely payments.
How Much Budget Has Been Allocated?
The Delhi government has earmarked Rs 5,110 crore for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in the current financial year’s Budget. Officials have indicated that the allocation may be increased depending on the number of eligible beneficiaries. Departments are currently working on beneficiary identification, document verification and payment arrangements before the scheme is rolled out.
Why Is The Scheme Being Introduced?
The government says the scheme aims to improve the financial security of women from lower and lower middle income families by providing direct monthly financial support. The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana was one of the BJP’s key promises during the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, where the party pledged to provide Rs 2,500 every month to eligible women if it formed the government.
