Rumours that Air India has cancelled all international flights till July, spread like wildfire on social media, amidst the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war. Now, the airline has officially weighed in to clear the air.

Are Air India Flights Cancelled?

A social media post claimed that Air India had allegedly cancelled all of its international flights until July, owing to fuel shortages. “Air India has cancelled all of its international flights until July due to fuel shortages,” the post said.

Air India’s Official Response to the Flight Cancellation Claim

Air India cleared the air by not just refuting the claim but also calling it ‘malicious’. “#FakeNews Alert: Malicious and fabricated claims circulating on certain platforms alleging that Air India has cancelled all international flights are completely false and baseless. For accurate information, please rely only on official Air India channels,” a post by Air India Newsroom on the microblogging platform X said, which also included a screenshot of the viral post.

Cause of the Air India Flight Cancellation Claim

Recently, unconfirmed reports emerged that multiple airlines had trimmed their services recently, as the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war led to a massive surge in fuel prices. Air India did suspend over 500 international flights for April and May.

It is also alleged that Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India, had a staff meeting wherein he informed them about plans to limit operations. It is important to note that the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war has also caused geopolitical route disruptions and an increase in operational costs, in addition to the massive surge in fuel prices

Fact Check Verdict: Will There Be Cancellations Amid US-Israel-Iran War?

The viral claim that Air India cancelled all international flights till July is false and misleading. But potential passengers should still check with the airlines before finalising any travel plans.
