The rapid rise of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), an online satirical platform turned protest movement, has sparked intense political speculation and viral claims regarding its funding and institutional backing. Amidst the movement’s growing visibility, recent social media reports have alleged that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha is a primary patron of the outfit, specifically pointing to his role in facilitating a press conference for the group at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.

Clarifying Press Conference Venue Controversy
The allegations gained traction after it was revealed that the venue booking for a recent CJP press conference, where the outfit appointed three new spokespersons, was made under the recommendation of RJD MP Manoj Jha. This connection led to accusations from political observers that the CJP is merely a proxy for the opposition’s INDIA bloc.
However, the group’s leadership has pushed back against these labels. Addressing the media, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka stated that the outfit has no formal political links, emphasising, “Our past affiliations are not important. This fight is bigger than that. CJP is bigger than an individual or any organisation”.
What is RJD’s Stance?
When questioned directly about his support for the movement and the ideological nature of the CJP, Manoj Jha has maintained a cautious distance. In a statement addressing his position on the matter, Jha noted that until the outfit’s ideology is clearly defined, it is not appropriate to make “episodic comments” about it. He further clarified that his understanding of the group’s political formation remains “not clear,” refuting the idea that his facilitation of a venue constitutes a formal endorsement of the movement’s broader political agenda.
The Path to June 6
The scrutiny surrounding the CJP’s funding and political alliances comes as the group prepares for a significant protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6. The movement’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, who has been operating from abroad, is expected to return to India to lead the demonstration, which demands the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged lapses in the NEET-UG, CBSE, and CUET examinations.
Despite allegations of foreign backing or political puppetry from senior BJP leaders, the CJP maintains that its initiative is driven by the frustration of “8 lakh people” who signed an online petition demanding systemic accountability in the examination process.
Dipke, while he is set to return to India on June 6, has appealed to the youth to lead a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
According to the CJP’s newly appointed spokesperson Sourabh Das, as he lands at Delhi airport from the US, Dipke will head straight to Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission for the protests at Jantar Mantar.
