Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked near Mata Sahib Gurdwara at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, on Thursday. Badal suffered an injury to his hand after an assailant allegedly tried to attack him with a sharp-edged weapon. The incident took place around 11:30 am when Badal was on his way to the gurdwara. Police personnel intervened immediately and detained the alleged attacker.
According to officials, an assailant approached Badal and attempted to stab him. Police quickly overpowered the attacker, but Badal sustained an injury to his hand during the incident. He was taken to a private hospital for medical treatment. Further details about the severity of his injury are awaited.
Inspector Santosh Kendre, who was deployed as part of Badal’s security, was also injured while intervening in the attack. Police have detained one person in connection with the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.
