Fifteen workers were rescued after a large metal slab collapsed at a construction site in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday night. The incident took place at around 9 pm during ongoing construction work. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said 12 rescued workers were taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment. The remaining three, who suffered no major injuries, were discharged.

According to Sanghavi, all 12 hospitalised workers were in stable condition and none had sustained critical injuries.

Rescue Operation Continues At Gandhinagar Site

Authorities continued the debris-clearing operation through the night as a precautionary measure to ensure that no one was left trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Teams from the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, police, district administration, SDRF and NDRF were deployed at the site.

Rescue personnel used concrete and metal cutters along with specialised cranes capable of lifting more than 300 tonnes to remove the debris. Sanghavi said the site manager and supervisors had indicated that no workers were still trapped. However, senior officials remained at the location and directed teams to conduct a thorough search of the area.

What Caused The Gandhinagar Slab Collapse?

Officials have not yet established the exact cause of the accident. The metal slab collapsed while construction work was underway at the site. Earlier, Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya had reported that five injured workers had been rescued and taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. The number later increased to 15 as the rescue operation progressed.

Authorities are continuing to remove the collapsed structure and debris before declaring the site completely clear.
