Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have sealed a residential property in Hyderabad linked to late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa due to long-pending property tax dues. The house, located in Srinagar Colony, Yousufguda, with door number 8-3-1099/A, was sealed on March 30 after authorities found that property tax had remained unpaid since 2017.
GHMC Action After Repeated Notices Ignored
According to officials, several notices were issued over the years, including reminders sent earlier this year. However, no response was received from individuals associated with the property, prompting the civic body to take strict enforcement action.
Despite multiple warnings, there was no compliance or payment, leaving authorities with no option but to seal the building.
₹82.91 Lakh Dues Under OTS Scheme: GHMC Deadline Warning
GHMC officials said the unpaid property tax had accumulated over several years. Under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, valid until March 31, the pending dues—after applicable rebates—stand at approximately ₹82.91 lakh.
Authorities have cautioned that failure to clear the dues within the deadline may result in the loss of OTS benefits, increasing the financial burden on the property owners.
Jayalalithaa Property Classification Dispute Adds to Tax Liability
The property had earlier been classified under the commercial category, leading to a higher tax burden. It is reported that Jayalalithaa’s nephew, Deepak Jayakumar, requested a reclassification of the property from commercial to residential, claiming it had been used for residential purposes since 2017. However, the dues remain unpaid.
