In a stunning turn of events, a mountain Sherpa guide has been miraculously rescued near Everest Base Camp nearly six days after going missing near Camp IV at approximately 25,000 feet. According to multiple media reports, the guide, identified as Hillary Dawa Sherpa, went missing a week ago on the world’s highest peak, leaving his family in deep distress.

The breakthrough came when a garbage management team from the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) spotted Sherpa crawling out of the Khumbu Icefall toward Base Camp. The crew acted swiftly to secure his rescue.

A Miraculous Survival on Mount Everest

While guides on Mount Everest are no strangers to peril, the rescue of Dawa Sherpa is being hailed as nothing short of a miracle. His family, who had spent six days preparing for the worst, finally found relief after seeing photographs of him safe at Base Camp.

Reports indicate that the SPCC team found Sherpa alive but weak in the Khumbu Icefall, sliding and crawling through the snow to make his way down.

Evacuated to Kathmandu for Medical Treatment

According to Tshering Sherpa, CEO of the SPCC, Dawa Sherpa has been airlifted to Kathmandu for urgent medical treatment.

“Dawa is suffering from severe frostbite and speaks very slowly,” the CEO told The Tourism Times. Photographs circulating online show an exhausted Dawa Sherpa resting and sipping soup while still clad in his heavy summit suit.

Timeline of the Sherpa’s Disappearance

Reports stated that Dawa Sherpa went missing on May 29 near Camp III. Initial reports indicate he was assisting a Polish climber before he separated from the group and disappeared. The miraculous survival comes during a climbing season; in the Everest and Makalu regions alone, at least seven climbers and guides have lost their lives so far in 2026.
